Watercolor on Arches watercolor paper.
Have you ever seen a random purple bluebonnet-looking flower in the middle of a lawn? It’s a grape hyacinth. They’re so beautiful! I don’t know how they got in our lawn, but they aren’t weeds. I could dig them up and replant them in a pot or a flower bed, but they bloom in spring and it’s best to move them in the fall… when you can’t see where they are anymore after mowing. I tried making this painting very loose, leaving watermarks in the painting to add to that effect, while still giving the idea of the flower. Artist Jean Haines has mastered that technique, and I admire her unique work immensely.
